International Chefs Day exceeds expectations, reaches record number of children with global healthy eating campaign
PARIS, December, 2017: International Chefs Day – October 20, 2017 – delivered super heroes and super success across the globe. The Foods for Healthy Heroes campaign, run in partnership between Worldchefs and Nestlé Professional, reached 37,820 children in 55 countries. This was thanks in great part to the commitment of 4,728 chefs who generously donated their time and energy, doubling the scope of the 2016 campaign.
“I am thrilled with the outcomes of this year’s event, and want to extend my deepest gratitude to everyone who played a role in achieving this success; in particular to the chefs who delivered enthusiasm and leadership; to our partners at Nestlé Professional with whom we worked diligently for months in preparation for this global event, and of course to the children!” said International Chefs Day Committee Chair Joanna Ochniak. ”The Foods for Healthy Heroes theme really captured imaginations, and by doing so allowed us to show in a tangible way that healthy eating can be fun. This is a life-lesson – it is a gift that we as chefs are passionate about passing down to the next generation of culinary professionals and home cooks.”
Since its creation by esteemed chef Dr. Bill Gallagher in 2004, Worldchefs has committed to using International Chefs Day to celebrate our profession and to pass on our knowledge and skills with a sense of pride and commitment to the future.
The 2017 International Chefs Day campaign consisted of a series of fun-filled healthy eating workshops for children which took place in diverse communities around the globe, on or around October 20, 2017. A toolkit filled with materials needed for the workshop as well as logistical support was provided to seminar hosts.
“With outcomes of this scope, we can be proud that we are making a real difference in the lives of families and communities,” said Rochelle Schaetzl, Nestlé Professional. “The Healthy Kids programme was established as part of our commitment to improving nutrition for children, and through this dynamic International Chefs Day collaboration with Worldchefs, we are making great strides towards that goal which we care passionately about. During October and November, across the world from Brazil to Iceland to Malaysia, children were celebrating the joys of eating well.”
The first phase of the campaign – collecting recipes for use on International Chefs Day – was also a great success. Over 50 recipes were generously submitted by Worldchefs from 15 countries.
